Nutrition for Yoga Athletes: Plan for Optimal Performance

2pm ET  (11am PT) Saturday, May 28, 2022

How can you prepare your self, mind, and body for yoga competition? During this interactive Zoom course, Keri Palasz will provide practical advice and flexible guidelines that yoga athletes can use to promote health and wellness through their food selections. The course will encourage participation through online polls and surveys. Attendees will learn nutrition basics, how Olympic athletes use a planned healthy dietary intake pattern as a tool to promote their success, and how to plan their own healthy dietary intake pattern. In addition to a focus on food intake,  proper hydration will also be explained. Attendees will learn how to determine their own hydration needs, and how to maintain proper hydration to optimize both health and performance. When an athlete loses 2% of body weight due to dehydration, physical performance abilities are impaired. For someone weighing 140 pounds, that is a loss of just 2.8 pounds, which many who practice hot yoga can lose in just one 90 minute class. Attendees will leave this course with a template they can use to plan their own healthy dietary intake pattern, a list of suggested reference books written by credible nutrition experts, and inspiration to eat well every day to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to optimize their performance on the national stage in August 2022.
